Standing Against Forced Unionism
Nobody should be forced to join a union or to pay union dues, but our government allows it every day by allowing unions to take monopoly bargaining authority.
Under the National Labor Relations Act, unions are allowed to become exclusive representatives for entire workplaces as soon as over 50% of voters in a union election vote to unionize. After unions take power, one of the first steps they take is to negotiate contracts that require every worker to pay them union dues, even those who do not want to be union members.
The Adam Smith Foundation is committed to the fight for legislation that will allow workers to choose their own representation, whether they choose to join a union or not. Forced unionization hurts workers and it hurts our economy. Removing the burden of forced unionism is a necessary step to get our nation on the right track for the future.
Legislature Attempts to Weaken Initiative Rights
This session, the legislature is considering a variety of bills that will extremely restrict citizens' opportunity to take the lead on legislative issues through the initiative process.
Missourians' initiative rights are extremely important and must be protected. Initiatives are an important tool for citizens to use when the legislature refuses to take action on important issues, and we must ensure this tool remains a viable option for Missourians to use.
